Time is an amazing thing. We ask so much of it… to slow down, to fly by, to stop. We will it to be kind and to be on our side. We manage it, we waste it, we cherish it, we run out of it- we expect healing and forgiveness with its passing. Despite all these demands, time keeps on ticking, it goes by, it travels.
If there’s one thing this last year has given us in spades, it’s time. Have you had moments since the first lockdown when you’ve wished for time to move on and bring a return to normal? Or maybe you’ve hoped it would stand still fearing what the future may bring. For me, this abundance of time has meant reflection and re-evaluation, both in my personal and professional life. It sounds very evolved, but in fact there was just no avoiding it.
This May would have been the 10-year anniversary of the Iso Barre Studio opening. Prior to that I was teaching in gyms, tennis clubs, church and village halls both in England and America. I even made house calls! More than 1,000 people have taken an Iso Barre class. I’ve trained more than a dozen instructors to either teach for Iso Barre or to incorporate Iso Barre exercises into their own fitness styles. This time has truly gone by in a flash.
This current session of Iso Barre classes will be the last. Whilst the impact of the pandemic has been a major factor in my decision, I also feel it’s time for me to move on. Creating Iso Barre has been a wonderful experience, but it’s the community that has grown out of it which is truly special. I have met so many lovely people, and been lucky enough to become close with many of them. I have seen strangers become great friends, bonded by their shared experience of shaking legs and burning muscles! Your love for Iso Barre and your kindness, loyalty and support has fueled me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I would also like to thank all the instructors past and present whom have brought Iso Barre classes to life. I am very proud that all the studio instructors were in fact clients first! Training to be an instructor was no easy task, but they each embraced the challenge and I think you’ll agree that Iso Barre signature exercises like Pretzel, Fold Over and Diamond Thigh would have been impossible were it not for the motivation and enthusiasm of these instructors.
It’s so very hard for me to end this chapter, and I’m hopeful that my next chapter unfolds with as much joy and satisfaction as you’ve given me over the last decade. I hope you’ll continue your health and fitness journey! It’s so important for our physical and emotional health, especially now, and with access to livestream platforms all over the world, it’s an exciting time in the wellness world.
I am so grateful to each of you- words cannot express. Goodbyes are always hard, but it’s with lots of love and sincerity that I say to you, our time together was indeed time very well spent. Lea xx
